Enhancing Disaster Risk Reduction Knowledge and Fostering Volunteerism
Students pursuing their Bachelor's in Arts in Social Work (BASW) from Patan Multiple Campus (PMC) attended an awareness class at the Mitra Disaster Risk Reduction Learning Center (MDRRLC). The session aimed to equip students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in disaster preparedness, emphasizing the importance of pre-disaster readiness.
During the session, the students received comprehensive theoretical knowledge on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR). This included understanding the fundamental concepts of DRR, the various types of disasters, their impacts, and the importance of preparedness and mitigation strategies.
In addition to theoretical learning, the students were engaged in practical exercises that highlighted the process-wise importance of preparedness before a disaster. These activities were designed to enhance their understanding of emergency response procedures, the necessity of having an emergency plan, and the crucial role of community involvement in disaster management.
Inspired by the awareness class, the Social Work students from PMC expressed their commitment to disseminating the knowledge they acquired to their fellow friends and peers. They recognized the value of raising awareness and educating others about disaster preparedness to build a more resilient community.
Further demonstrating their dedication, the students showed a keen interest in volunteering at the MDRRLC in the future. Their willingness to contribute their time and efforts reflects their enthusiasm for applying their social work skills to real-world scenarios and supporting the center's mission of promoting disaster risk reduction.
The participation of BASW students from Patan Multiple Campus in the awareness class at the Mitra Disaster Risk Reduction Learning Center marks a significant step in enhancing disaster preparedness education. Their commitment to sharing their knowledge and volunteering at the center underscores the critical role of social work students in fostering a culture of preparedness and resilience within their communities.
