Bhassara School in Lalitpur recently organized an interactive awareness session for parents of kindergarten students at the Mitra Disaster Risk Reduction Learning Center (MDRRLC). The program focused on the critical importance of emergency bags and proactive disaster preparedness to ensure family safety.
✔ Essentials of an Emergency Bag – The Program Officer (PO) and Program Coordinator (PC) explained the must-have items, including first-aid kits, drinking water, flashlights, and important documents, emphasizing their life-saving role during disasters.
✔ Information Board for Emergencies – Parents were encouraged to display an emergency information board on their doors for quick reference during crises. Samples of these boards and a checklist of emergency bag items were distributed.
✔ Hands-On Learning at MDRRLC – After the discussion, parents took a guided tour of the learning center, exploring various sections on risk mitigation, disaster response, and preparedness strategies.
Inspired by the session, parents pledged to prepare their emergency bags, with focal teachers from Bhassara School following up to ensure compliance. This initiative not only strengthened community awareness but also fostered a collaborative approach to disaster resilience.
The event successfully reinforced the message that "preparedness today ensures safety tomorrow," leaving parents more confident in protecting their families during emergencies.
