A project with the objective of strengthening the resilience of communities in India through practices of Bosai culture was introduced and completed in Chennai, India, for 24 teachers from 12 schools. This project endeavors to promote disaster resilience by intertwining Japanese Bosai Culture with the educational ecosystem of Chennai particularly in the low-income area.
Over the first two days, teachers were introduced to eight games and exercises introduced in Nepal through the JICA-supported project. On the third day, they put their learning into action—organizing an event at Chennai High School where 50 students from grades 6-8 participated.
The feedback was inspiring: students not only enjoyed the activities but also gained valuable knowledge and practical skills to stay safe during disasters.
This initiative is implemented by Plus Arts NPO and supported by CityNet Plus Arts Creative Center, with the local coordination conducted by All India Institute of Local Self Government (AIILSG). Resource people from the Disaster Education Promotion Office (DEPO), Nepal, were involved in providing the training. The project is funded by Toshiba International Foundation.
Together, we’re building safer, more prepared schools—one teacher, one student at a time.
