We concluded an impactful four-day training in Musikot, Rukum, focusing on the innovative use of disaster preparedness games. This professional development initiative was meticulously designed to empower local educators and field staff with the skills needed to build resilient communities. The training represents a significant step forward in our mission to shift from a reactive to a preventative culture of disaster management.
Days 1 & 2: Equipping Educators
The first half of the training was a dedicated workshop for teachers from 32 schools across Rukum. Over two days, participants were introduced to a series of engaging, interactive games designed to teach students about the risks associated with forest fires, landslides, storms, and earthquakes. The training emphasized a hands-on approach, allowing teachers to not only understand the educational material but also to practice the facilitation skills necessary to make learning both fun and memorable for their students.
Days 3 & 4: Training Our Partners
Following the teacher workshop, the next two days were focused on our collaboration with Human Development and Community Services (HDCS). Thirty staff members joined us to explore how these newly developed games can be integrated into broader community outreach and awareness programs. This session provided our partners with the tools and methodology to effectively use the games as a medium for communicating vital disaster risk reduction information to a wider audience.
These educational games are the result of a rigorous co-development process, which began with a foundational workshop in November 2024. Now, with the successful completion of this training, the games are ready to be implemented across various schools and communities, serving as a cornerstone of our efforts to promote a culture of safety. We extend our sincere gratitude to our partners at HDCS for their invaluable collaboration and commitment to this important cause.
