The Bhassara Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Club recently organized a significant community-level DRR event in the open premises of Ward 19, Lalitpur. This event brought together local residents, community leaders, and government officials to participate in critical discussions and activities aimed at enhancing disaster preparedness and resilience. The event was attended by notable dignitaries, including the Deputy Mayor of Lalitpur Metropolitan City, the Ward Chairperson of Ward 19, and representatives from other wards in Lalitpur.

The primary focus of the event was to engage the local community in understanding and mitigating the risks associated with natural disasters. Through interactive sessions, workshops, and hands-on demonstrations, participants learned vital skills in disaster preparedness, emergency response, and recovery strategies. The event also provided a platform for local leaders to discuss the importance of DRR at the community level and emphasize collaborative efforts for building disaster-resilient neighborhoods.

NHK TV Japan’s involvement in filming this event highlighted the global significance of community-led disaster risk reduction efforts. The coverage showcased the proactive steps being taken by the Bhassara DRR Club and local authorities to protect vulnerable communities and promote sustainable practices that can withstand the challenges posed by natural disasters.

By bringing together residents, local government officials, and community-based organizations, the event emphasized the power of collective action in disaster management. It also demonstrated how grassroots-level initiatives like those led by the Bhassara DRR Club can serve as models for other communities around the world. The community of Ward 19, with the support of its leaders and the broader Lalitpur region, is now better equipped to face the challenges of future disasters, ensuring a safer and more resilient environment for all.
